Protecting the Land of Israel

1 December, 2012 Here's a little explanation on why there wasn't a blog post for the month of November. Some of our team members, and especially those that update the blog, were called for emergency military reserve duty as part of Operation Pillar of Defense. Needless to say, they were away from the office and their home for a few weeks in order to help protect Israel.

We are proud of their service and beleive that missing a few blog posts is a small sacrifice to make for the security and safety of the country and its citizens. Hopefully the cease-fire will become longer term and the missile attacks will stop.

Signs and Symbols of the New Year: Rosh HaShana in Israel 5773 - 2012

20 September, 2012 We are now between the holidays of Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement).

Festive meals on Rosh Hashana are celebrated across the generations (as attested to by the long lines in Israeli grocery stores!), and many people include symbolic foods as part of their feasting.

Honey-dipped apple slices are probably the best-known Rosh Hashana food. They symbolize the promise and sweetness of a new beginning. As we refresh our blog with the promise to bring you more on our favorite topics of health, nutrition and the Land of Israel, we leave you with the traditional apples-and-honey blessing: May God renew for all of us a good and a sweet year.

Supporting our community - HaBayit Shel Benji Walk-a-thon this May 4th

30 April, 2012 One of the organizations we are proud to support here in Israel is the Benji Hillman Foundation. On Friday, May 4, members of our team will be both volunteering and walking in the Foundation’s annual event to raise funds for “HaBayit Shel Benji” (Benji’s House), a residential and education facility focused on the needs of lone soldiers serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

World Health Day 2012--how Galilee Nutritionals can help you be healthier

4 April, 2012 April 7 is World Health Day, set aside by the World Health Organization to raise awareness and offer suggestions for people all over the globe. For 2012, the theme of World Health day is health and aging. More people than ever are living to see their grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and even beyond!), but keeping them safe and well over a longer lifespan is a test on many fronts.

Being healthy and feeling energetic allows us to fully embrace life’s tasks and trials. Jeremiah’s words let us know there missions awaiting us. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jer. 29:11)

Grapes in the Bible

30 March, 2012 Like many other ingredients in Galilee Nutritionals products, grapes have a strong connection to the Israel and the Bible. Modern Israel has a flourishing wine industry, but Biblical associations with wine go back to almost the very beginning of the Bible, where Noah plants a vineyard—and then suffers the effects of too much wine (Genesis 9). Wine is especially central at the Passover seder, which was likely Jesus’s Last Supper.

Pomegranates in Israel

16 November, 2011 Pomegranates are one of the fruits brought back by the 12 men Moses sends to “spy out” the land God has promised to the Israelites (Numbers 13). The distinctive globe-like shape of the pomegranate appeared on both the vestments of the high priest in Jerusalem’s Holy Temple and carved into Solomon’s Palace.

Rain

24 October, 2011 I’m thrilled to report that the rains have arrived in earnest, with significant downpours over the weekend. Faith pushes us through to the next appearance of grey clouds and the next rumble of thunder. As God explains to the Israelites in Leviticus 26:4, “I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.”
